Artist's Description
Original size: 24" x 24"
Painting finished: October 21, 2017
Keeping with his impressionistic style, Ovidiu Ervin Gruia's knife-painting captures the depth of this peaceful landscape with heavy paint strokes to create a 3-D feel.
The balance of the painting draws the eye to the red boat. The grays of the sky seem to linger, refusing to surrender to the inevitable sunset. The shimmer of the water bewitches us into a state of tranquility, drawing us in and creating in us a longing to wade past the plants and climb into the boat.
The painting leaves the observer with many questions. Why was the rowboat left with the ores in the water? Did the rower abandon the boat? Is the rower just sleeping at the bottom of the boat? These questions and many more begin a private conversation between the viewer and the painting.
About Ovidiu Ervin Gruia

Gruia escaped communist Romania at age 15 along with his family and he landed in a Southern California public high school with only a basic knowledge of English. At age 17, he developed the first of several start-ups, only to leave the business world to pursue his education. He studied business and theology and has a broad range of experience in facilities management, marketing and business development in the energy and healthcare...
